Campervan hire in Alice Springs

Collect from Alice Springs, Northern Territory. This page covers where the depot is, when it is open and what is worth driving to first.

Picking up in Alice Springs

Alice Springs is the supply point for the Red Centre, and the depot on Stokes Street is a few minutes from the town centre. Everything west and south of here is long-distance driving, so this is where you arrive with water, food and a full tank rather than hoping to find them later.

Stokes Street is a short drive from Alice Springs Airport and from the Todd Mall, with the Stuart Highway running north to Darwin and south towards the South Australian border.

Collection happens during the hours listed here, with a walk-around of the vehicle before you drive out so you know where the cooker, water and bedding are. If your flight lands late in the day, say so when you book rather than arriving after the desk closes. After hours collection may be available on request, but it has to be arranged in advance.

What to do first from Alice Springs

The first night usually decides the shape of a trip: too far and you are driving tired, too close and you have spent a day going nowhere. These are the directions worth considering straight out of Alice Springs.

  • Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park via the Lasseter and Stuart highways
  • Kings Canyon and Watarrka National Park
  • The MacDonnell Ranges and Glen Helen Gorge

Driving out of Alice Springs

Fuel and food are the two things to sort before you leave town. Fill the tank at the last major town on your route rather than assuming the next one is close, and carry more water than you think you need if the drive heads inland. Mobile coverage thins quickly once you are outside the suburbs.

The depot's own page on the booking site carries the map and the operator's current terms: see campervan hire in Alice Springs.
