Campervan hire in Melbourne

Collect from Ringwood, Victoria. This page covers where the depot is, when it is open and what is worth driving to first.

Picking up in Melbourne

Ringwood is in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, which makes the depot the right side of the city for the Great Ocean Road, the Yarra Valley and the run east into Gippsland. Collect here and you avoid driving back through the CBD to get out.

Ringwood sits at the end of the Eastern Freeway and on the Belgrave and Lilydale train lines, with EastLink running south towards the Mornington Peninsula. From Melbourne Airport it is a cross-city drive rather than a short hop, so allow for it.

Collection happens during the hours listed here, with a walk-around of the vehicle before you drive out so you know where the cooker, water and bedding are. If your flight lands late in the day, say so when you book rather than arriving after the desk closes. After hours collection may be available on request, but it has to be arranged in advance.

What to do first from Melbourne

The first night usually decides the shape of a trip: too far and you are driving tired, too close and you have spent a day going nowhere. These are the directions worth considering straight out of Ringwood.

  • Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles
  • Yarra Valley wineries and the Dandenong Ranges
  • Wilsons Promontory and the Gippsland coast

Driving out of Melbourne

Fuel and food are the two things to sort before you leave town. Fill the tank at the last major town on your route rather than assuming the next one is close, and carry more water than you think you need if the drive heads inland. Mobile coverage thins quickly once you are outside the suburbs.

The depot's own page on the booking site carries the map and the operator's current terms: see campervan hire in Melbourne.
